Good Morning Good Night

Have you heard of No Big Dill's Once upon a Thread? Its an awesome month long project where she asked different bloggers to pick their favorite children's books and do a project based on them . There are some really great ones. Definitely go check them out. While they are all awesome, I'm particularly drawn to The Love you Forever Skirt from A Lemon Squeezy Home. Probably because that's is one of my favorite children's books.  So while reading all these wonderful posts about cute children's books, I decided that Tabitha needed a dress based on her favorite book, Good Morning, Good Night. Tabitha Loves this book, She loves to pet each animal and say nigh nigh to each one. She makes us read it at least 3 times a night.

I started with a really pretty Yellow with red flowers for the top, (can't remember the name of it right now) and some blue with stars that i've had in my stash forever. The Skirt is made from 1/4 yard of the star fabric and lined with unbleached muslin. The top is made from the yellow flower material and completely lined. I used some pretty buttons I got on clearance at Joann fabric's a while ago.  The sash is made from more unbleached muslin and the little lamb poking out of the belt is made of leftover minky from Tabitha's first halloween costume (she was a lamb! haha). The top has a boat neck and 3/4 length sleeves. My favorite part is that the little lamb fits in the pocket that the sash makes. So cute!

Lucky Charm

So for St Patricks Day I wanted to make Tabitha a dress that was a little different, something that didn't look like everything in the stores, or everything I was seeing online. I had a ton of idea's for this dress, and kind of went with it as i went along. The Skirt and sleeves are made from Alexander Henry's Heart Throbs in Green, the top is made from some green and white striped material i got on clearance at Joann fabrics and has been in my stash for ever. The sash is some Green cotton from Fabrics R us in San Jose, I got it for a quilt I was going to make for someone but ended up not making it. The underskirt is green glitter tule from Joann Fabrics left over from Tabitha's first christmas dress. The hair bow and the little doohiki on the sash are both from the glitter tule.

I had to tell Tabitha to stand like a ballerina so we could see the belt.

Tabitha likes big bows!
Tabitha is very much a girly girl. Last night She wanted me to put perfume on her and every morning she asks for a bow in her hair.

I took Pictures to do a tutorial which I will upload later this week.

Pretty Bow holder

So if your like me, you have a huge mess of bows, headbands, etc for your little princess. Tabitha loves to wear hair bows, tiaras, flowers, and the like. Morgen hates that we have a huge mess of them on our bathroom counter.

Here is what our bathroom looked like before, plus an extra box of headbands on top of the jewelry box out of the picture.

Here is the After!

Want to make one?

Awesome!

Supply list:
Painters canvas. I used a thin one I got in a two pack at Porters.
A Fat Quarter of your desired fabric
Ribbon
Spray Adhesive
 staple gun
staples
drop cloth or newspapers

Ready to get started?
Ok!

 Here's all your supplies

Step 1. lay out your paper/ drop cloth

Step 2: Spray the canvas according to directions on the can.

Step 3: lay fabric on canvas and smooth on.
Step 4: Pull edges as tight as you can and staple on the back. Try to do this as close to the inside as possible. Make sure you get the edges nice and neat.

Step 5: If your staples look like mine (ie stuck up a little) use a hammer and gently hammer them down.

Step 6: staple ribbon on the back, pull tight around to other side over front and staple on back. Alternate ribbon, or if your using all one kind, keep going till you reach the end. The frequency is up to you.

Step 7: Admire your awesome work. =)

Place in bathroom or bedroom to display and hold hair clips and bows.

Cost Break down:
I had the fabric from a fat quarter exchange from Sew mama Sew $0
The ribbon was from my stash $0
Canvas 2 pack: $4 ($2 each)
Spray adhesive $8 (more than enough for multiple projects)
Staple gun and staples were borrowed from my super awesome hubby.
I did this in about an hour. Now my bathroom is starting to look like less of a mess (lets be honest, because its definitely not spotless!)

If you make one i'd love to see it!

Easy floor blanket tutorial

Since my little princess wanted a Princess and the Frog party, i've been on the look out for cheep cute and inexpensive ideas for decorations. We live in Idaho now so an outdoor party in April isn't going to work. I also don't want to pay to have a party for a 2 year old at one of the party places here. Since we are going to have her party here at our small cozy house, its all about having a place for people to sit. I decided to make a floor blanket for the kids to sit on and then let the adults sit in the chairs and the couch.

Seriously don't let Tabitha's lack of enthusiasm in this picture fool you, she loves it, she's just not feeling well right now.

Ready to get started? Awesome,

you'll need:
1 yard cotton fabric for the front. I used princess and the Frog fabric from walmart
1 yard batting (i had some on hand from another project)
1 yard flannel for the back. (I used some lavender plane flannel)
1 package of single fold blanket binding. (I used green to contrast with the fabric)
yarn
needles, thread, sewing machine, scissors etc.

Sorry its a little low on pictures but I think you'll be able to figure those parts out.
Step 1: I laid out the flannel, right side down. (sorry no pic)
Step 2: lay the batting on top of the flannel.
Step 3: lay the top fabric on top of the batting. Then pin all layers together.
(note: even though I had 1 yard of each, they didn't all line up. I left them uneven until i sewed them together)
step 4: Sew the three layers together. The top layer was a little smaller than the other two, so I sewed along the selvage, all the way around.
Step 5: (a little hard to see in the picture, sorry) I put pins in the pattern I wanted in the middle of the blanket. For mine I did them off set of eachother and each row about a hand apart.
Step 6. Cut the excess batting and bottom layer off. I left a little bit of room (about 1/4 inch) past the selvage of the top layer.
Step 7: lay the blanket out flat and open the binding. Slide the blanket inside the binding and pin. go all the way around, making sure to fold the edges on the corners.

Step 8: Sew along the edge of the binding making sure to catch the blanket all the way around.
Step 9. use your yarn to sew knots where you pinned previously. (sorry no pic)
And your done!
Step back and enjoy your cute little blanket.
My little one likes to cuddle in hers when she's watching Angelina Ballerina.
